SIBUR is planning to build a second gas processing installation in Tobolsk

Moscow, 23 August 2010. SIBUR’s Investment Committee has agreed to implement a project for the construction of Tobolsk-Neftekhim’s second gas fractionation plant (GFP) for processing wide light hydrocarbon fraction (WLHF) with a capacity of 2.8 million tons per year.

SIBUR is also planning to increase the capacity of Tobolsk-Neftekhim’s existing gas processing plant, which since the company’s inception in 1984 has processed around 2 million tons of WLHF per year. Since 2005, through modernization the capacity of its GFC has gradually expanded, and in 2009 reached 3 million tons. Currently there is a project to increase its capacity to 3.8 million tons per year. It is planned that the bulk of the work will be completed in 2011.

In this way, the total capacity of Tobolsk-Neftekhim’s gas processing plants could reach 6.6 million tons of WLHF per year and become the largest in the world.

The expansion of gas processing capacity is part of SIBUR’s program to develop its gas-chemical complex in Western Siberia. It includes an increase in the processing of associated petroleum gas from 16.8 billion cubic meters in 2010 to more than 20 billion cubic meters by 2012, the construction of a new pipeline to transport WLHF from Yuzhno-Balyksky GPP to Tobolsk-Neftekhim with a capacity of 7 million tons per year, as well as a number of other infrastructure projects.
