«Plastik» OJSC

JSC Plastik (Uzlovaya, Tula region) is a subsidiary of SIBUR and occupies a leading position in the Russian chemical market. At present, Plastik is the sole producer of ABS-plastics in Russia.

The business operates and is being developed in several directions: the production of monomers and polymers, which is included in the «Synthesis» division, and the processing of polymers by various methods, which operates within the division «Recycling of Plastics».

The business’s technical complex includes the production of styrene with a capacity of up to 60,000 tonnes per year, the production of expandable polystyrene with a capacity of up to 11,300 tonnes per year, as well as the production of separators and phenoplasts with a capacity of 6380 tonnes per year.

The business’s production capacity for ABS-plastics consists of about 23,000 tonnes per year. It also operates production lines for the production of car parts. The Plastik operation also includes a facility for the production of geosynthetic materials — Plastik-Geosintetika, with a design capacity of 3000 tonnes of geogrid and about 10,000 tonnes of non-woven fabric per year.

The businesses’s industrial infrastructure includes a special polymer warehouse, designed for the storage of 3000 tonnes of products.
In SIBUR’s corporate structure the Company is a part of the Directorate of Plastics and Organic Synthesis, headed by Vice President Sergei Merzlyakov.

Plastik’s key products are ABS-plastic materials, and components for automotive and machine construction; raw materials for manufacturers of plastics and the construction industry, and safety products for workers in the mining and construction industries; finished products for household use aimed at a wide range of consumers. The Company produces more than 250 molding and extrusion products for motor vehicles.
The supply of raw materials (ethylbenzene) for Plastik comes from Sibur-Khimprom in Perm. Raw materials for the production of geocanvas (polypropylene) are supplied by the Company Tomskneftekhim.

The technical production process includes several steps. The first of these is to obtain styrene by the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene. In turn, styrene becomes the raw material for the production of polystyrene, ABS plastics, rubber for automotive components, and other industrial rubber products. The business has fully automated the process of the compounding of ABS-plastics, which allows for quality products that meet the highest international standards. The processing of plastics for the production of automotive components is made by casting, extrusion and pressing.

The main consumers of the business’s products are road construction, the oil and gas sector, industrial and civil construction, railway construction, and agriculture. Plastik’s products are sold domestically and also exported to countries in Western and Eastern Europe, the CIS and parts of Asia.
