SIBUR is one of Russia’s largest producers in the plastics and organic synthesis segments. The company manufactures styrene, polystyrene, polymer compounds, ethylbenzene, alcohols, ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol, polyethylene terephthalate, geosynthetic materials, and caustics. In the plastics segment, SIBUR aims to build a leading position in the Russian market by boosting production and expanding its brand assortment, while constantly improving the consumer properties of its basic products. In addition, the Company is actively developing new business areas in terms of plastics processing and the production of polymer film. One such area is manufacturing modern geosynthetic materials, which are used in road construction and the oil and gas industry.

The operational management and control of the manufacturing activity of the plastics production unit is the responsibility of the Plastics and Organic Synthesis Division, which is headed by Sergey Merzlyakov.

SIBUR is one of only a few companies in the world with synthetic rubber production comprising the entire manufacturing process chain for this product type including separation of individual hydrocarbons, and manufacture of monomers and polymers. The market share of SIBUR's products in Russia is 16% for isoprene rubber, 29% for butyl rubber, 35% for butadiene rubber, 50% for emulsion styrene-butadiene rubber, 100% for solution styrene-butadiene rubber, 82% for nitrile butadiene rubber, and 100% for thermoplastic elastomers. SIBUR is in the top ten of the world leaders by total capacities in the rubber segment (600,000 tonnes).
