Protecting the environment and human health is an integral part of the mission and development strategy of SIBUR, which aims to achieve a level of environmental safety that corresponds to the best indicators of the world’s leading petrochemical companies.

SIBUR’s key environmental indicators in the year 2009 demonstrate a reduction in the environmental impact of the company’s production facilities.

In that year, emissions of airborne pollutants decreased by 7% year-over-year. The creation of household and industrial waste was reduced by 6%. The volume of wastewater per year also declined, by 12%.

SIBUR considers the most important part of its environmental mission to be the processing of associated petroleum gas (APG), which is formed during oil production. In 2009, APG processing increased by 10% compared with the results for 2008, reaching 16.8 billion cubic metres.
